On the 2nd of July 1951, over the course of a few hours, a 67-year-old woman from St Petersburg, Florida, turned into nothing more than a heap of ash. Only her charred foot would remain.

Nothing that surrounded Mary had been burned, and even the plastic tiles that lay beneath her had not melted.

Fire-fighters and Forensic scientists could not explain how this had happened. They were left completely baffled as to what could have caused such a thing to happen to the human body.

It was not long after that the FBI became involved. They suspected foul play, however, this would soon be ruled out.

The charred foot of Mary Reeser was all that remained

Mary died within 3 hours of the events taking place.

This spawned theories on spontaneous human combustion and paid to the idea how humans would burn slowly from the inside out, over the course of a few hours.
