Throughout the world, there are numerous reports of people seeing shadow beings. An interesting fact that goes hand in hand with these sightings is that nearly everyone who has reported them have at some point, been suffering from or they still are suffering from sleep paralysis.
Sleep paralysis is a phenomenon in which a person that is either falling asleep or awakening, temporarily experiences the inability to move, speak or even react. They lay frozen in fear so to speak.
It is said that sleep paralysis is a transitional state between wakefulness and sleep characterised by complete muscle atonia ( muscle weakness ).Sleep Paralysis strikes when the mind is awake and conscious but the body is actually asleep, so what happens is that you end up laying there totally paralysed but aware of your surroundings.
This condition is often accompanied by visions of these shadow beings in which one is unable to respond due to the paralysis that has set in.
It is mostly reported that these visions often involve a person or some sort of strange, demonic-like creature suffocating and traumatising the individuals. Usually, it is accompanied by the added feeling of pressure on one’s chest and difficulty breathing.
Another type of hallucination involves night time intruders that either enter one’s room or lurk outside the windows of the building, often this is acquainted with an extreme feeling of dread.
So is Sleep Paralysis merely down to muscle weakness? or is it something much more sinister at work. One thing is for certain more and more reports are coming in each day and some of the accounts are extremely disturbing.
For me personally, I have never experienced sleep paralysis and I never want to.
